 Change your furnace filter every 30 days if you use a 1'' filter. If you are using a 4"-5" wide media filter change it at the beginning of the heating season and if you have a/c you will need to change it at the beginning of the a/c season also, this will keep your system from over working the blower motor and add years to your furnace life.
